Bible Study 19th February 2020

Sunday, February 23rd, 2020

Led by Rev Suzanne Nockels

Reading 1 Samuel 17

We were asked to recount the well known story of the young shepherd boy David in his battle with Goliath.

Suzanne then provided a really interesting background to the story highlighting the unusual detail contained in this bible passage, leading to a comparison with the Greek battles in Homer’s Iliad & Odyssey

Readings :  Exodus 34 1-11    Matthew 17  1-13  Transfiguration/change

The weather transforms this world  changing life .    Sometimes we dont always like change  eg. if our plans are changed     Sometimes change/transformation is necessary  eg. a caterpillar is a strange looking thing until it changes into a beautiful butterfly or moth.                                                                                           Moses changed in God’s prescene and came down glowing    so much so that he wore a veil until he met God again. The light of God was on him.    Jesus began to shine when he was with His father

Meeting God through Jesus can change our lives   we will will shine  we will be transformed

Leader : Suzanne Nockels    We are going to be looking at the Bible  from Genesis to Revelation.                         Reading  Genesis 1 `-26  In the beginning                                                                                                                                            The exiled scholars in Babylon decided to write down everything  that had happeed before their exile  but Babylon had its own story   which was almost the same as Genesis      thikig about whast was around them.  But they put God  into their memories.

Creation wasn’t only the once it is still going on today  – trees bear fruit whihc grows into new trees, plants form seeds which grow, animals and humans reproduce.

What do yu love in life ?   Whatever it is it willbe mentioned in Genesis.

In Revelation we read about the tre of life  crops of frit  Water of life  all from creation mentioned in Genesis.
