Bible Study 11th September 2013

Leader: Keith Bradley
“Friendship” a relationship between two or more people who are friends, the mutual feelings of trust and affection and the behaviours that typify relationships and a relationship between people, organisations, or countries that is characterized by mutual assistance, approval and support.
“Fellowship” A group of people who share common interests, goals, experiences or views. Companionship or friendly association and membership in a group.
An old book of Tapton gives a a pledge the members made each year -…. it is the Lord’s will that we should unite in church fellowship ….. solemnly covenant and agree with Him and with each other, to walk together as a Christian church etc..
Question :Is it a part of being a Christian to seek out friends with who to share our faith?
Question : Do congregations grow as a result of faith, or friendship, or both?
A well known hymn says “What a friend we have in Jesus” Do we always remember this?
The Bible gives many examples of true friendship e.g
James 4:8 draw near to God and he will draw near to you.
Proverbs is another good source of wisdom
Prov.17:17 A friend loves at all times and a brother is born for adversity.
Prov.18:24 A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend sticks closer than a brother.
Prov.13:20 whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm etc.
We discussed these verses at great length and came away with many thoughts both in our personal lives and our church lives together in fellowship and friendship.
The next study group will be on 25th September when friends are asked to bring their favourite scripture reading for discussion.
