v. 9 Happy are the peacemakers…
this does not necessarily mean peacemakers in war situations – it can just as easily be applied to any human in a normal day – anger, greed. jealousy, all these do not lead to peace – peace is contentment – to be content with whatever situation we find ourselves in – not try to change it by being aggressive, or angry. Romans 12 v18 “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, it is written “It is mine to avenge, I will repay, say the Lord”
v10 Happy are those who are persecuted for my sake – how many of us would be persecuted for our belief? Rejoice and be glad for great is your reward.
Jesus was trying to prepare his disciples for life without him – from verse 1 when he tells them to open their minds and spirits and accept his teachings and each verse is connected to the one before until at the end he is preparing them for being persecuted on his behalf –
they did not understand his teachings until after his death.
This chapter has so very much to teach all of us – to show us what Jesus wants from us – how life can be with God. It will be difficult no-one can dispute that but our reward will be great.

Many thanks to Edwin for opening our eyes.
