Sunday 30th November 2014

Service arranged by John Silverton/Tom Lomas, with various members of the church taking part.
The fist candle on the advent wreath was lit.
Tom gave the talk – “what are you waiting for?” what are we waiting for? Is it for the shops to open, is it to get ready for guests or is it to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ?
Are some people so busy with the trivial things that they miss the point ?? Do they think advent is a time to let their hair down and enjoy parties?? We need to remember as we prepare to celebrate his birth, that Christ is still with us here today.
In America they celebrate Thanksgiving – perhaps we should have a thanksgiving day to give thanks for all the good things that God has done for us? or do we have every day as a thanksgiving day?
There is a saying “practice makes perfect” BUT practice will only make perfect if you know what you are doing in the first place.
Practice – prepare – wait for the Lord – search your hearts – do not put off till tomorrow what can be done today.
There is no time scale – travel on your journey and on the way prepare yourself for when He comes again.
Prayer for today ….
O Lord our God, make us watchful and keep us faithful as we await the coming of your Son our Lord, that, when he shall appear, he may not find us sleeping in sin but active in his service and joyful in his praise: Amen
