We had our Christmas Day morning service with Suzanne. Singing carols, hearing Isaac sing about the three wise men and Suzanne talking about Christmas songs starting with “White Christmas” Judy Garland – a lovely friendly, family time was felt by all. A good way to start the day.

Christmas Eve
Tapton and Hillsborough Tabernacle joined, at Hillsborough, for a nativity journey, each part of the journey – started with a child opening a “present” with a pop-up scene relating to part of the nativity, with various children and adults taking the part of shepherds, angels, kings, Mary & Joseph. Suzanne talked about presents – what do we want? do we get what we want? sometimes its the unexpected that bring most pleasure. Perhaps a visit – like the shepherds, sometimes an unusual gift such as one from the three kings, myrrh, quite often not an expensive gift . Surely its the thought that counts. The girls performed a dance in honour of Mary and her baby – simple but moving. We were entertained to a carol played on bells by the boys, and a solo by a young boy. A different service to our usual ones but one which we will remember.
Afterward we were served with mulled wine, mince pies and buns.

Carols by Candlelight Led by Suzanne Nockels
assisted by members of the congregation. God surprises earth with heaven
We sang all the usual carols with gusto, and learned a new one.
We heard about Mary, Joseph and the Shepherds through dramatised readings and bible readings.
Suzanne spoke about being surprised – can you look surprised when you unwrap the proverbial socks or slippers, have we lost the ability to be surprised? Do we take so many things on the news as day to day happenings that they no longer surprise us??? God sent his angel to surprise Mary – she gave birth to his son. The angel surprised the shepherds and they ran to see the babe. Miracles do still happen. God can still surprise us – a card from a long forgotten friend, a visit from someone unexpectedly, do these surprise us?? We look forward to celebrating the birth of Christ on Christmas day – are you prepared to be surprised??
Afterwards in the schoolroom we had mince pies, chocolates and a cuppa, where it was so good to meet up again with friends we have not see for a while.

Thanks to all who decorated the church, who helped with the service and those who served the cups of tea afterwards.

Some of us from Tapton went with Suzanne, her husband and Isaac to join friends at King’s Court to sing carols. Suzanne talked about things that pull us apart and the things that draw us together – we felt very drawn together as we sang, accompanied by a friend from Hillsboro’ Tabernacle.
We sang one carol by the light of candles and fairy lights and another to the tune of Ilkla Moor unaccompanied. Suzanne read a poem and a short article about a nativity play in a school and Isaac sang a song for us from his nativity play at school about the three wise men. All adding to the pleasure of the time together. Thanks to King’s Court for hosting the evening which concluded with mince pies and a chat together.

Leader – Suzanne Nockels
Suzanne and various members of the church had witnessed to RASCALS after school club on Friday, telling them the Christmas Story.
In John 1 v6 we read
“There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness”
A witness -he was to prepare the way – he saw things, he spoke the truth..
Are we witnesses??
We lit the third candle on the advent ring – John the Baptist candle.
John 1 v 14 – “The word became flesh and made his dwelling among us”
What do you want for Christmas?? Some people would like a new body part, knee, hip etc.
Flesh – not a word used much – not talked about, yet where would we be without it? God had a real body in the form of his son – God made flesh – our bodies are not perfect, no matter how we try to improve them but God made us all.
This week try to think of something good to thank God for bodies.
Also try to make a connection with someone else who has difficulties with their body.
Jesus said “as my Father has sent me – so I send you”…… to witness.
The Church is the body of Christ.
We celebrated Holy Communion together.
We sang …
Thou didst leave Thy throne and Thy kingly crown when Thou camest to earth for me;
but in Bethlehem’s home was there found no room for Thy holy nativity:
O come to my heart Lord Jesus, there is room in my heart for Thee.
Can you say that??
Following the service we had a birthday cake and mince pies.

Next week is our carol service at 2.45p.m.

Many thanks to the stalwarts who turned out in freezing weather to clean gutters, leaves, etc., from outside the church, supplying cups of tea and working inside.

Pea and Pie Social – Saturday 6th December

Sunday 7th December 2014

Sunday, December 7th, 2014

Leader: Rev.Alan Hindmarch
Readings: Isaiah 40 1-11 “Words of Hope”
2 Peter 3 8-15 “The Day of the Lord will come”.
Mark 1 1-8 “Good News Prepare the way.”
Live Godly, Holy lives as you look forward
The second candle of the advent ring was lit, this represents the prophets
who prophesised when the people would be back in Jerusalem – also that one would come as Saviour and one who would come in might (the second coming)
Jesus said “I am the way” he was tempted as we are, but he overcame temptation.
He will come again to his people.
It is such a long time since his death have some people given up hope that he will come again? Are people starting to doubt?
Our hope is in God, in Jesus Christ.
He is in every moment of every day – live Godly and Holy lives till he comes again.

This was Gift Sunday
Gifts were then received for the Good News Home in Buxton and playground toys for a school in Huddersfield.

Next week 14th Dec. is CHURCH ANNIVERSARY
Suzanne Nockels will lead the service at 2.45p.m.
