Thoughts for the end of 2012

Wednesday, December 26th, 2012

The theme of our Christmas morning service was peace and love – Luke 2 tells the story of the coming of Jesus – love brought to earth in the form of a baby.
There is a saying “The most important things in life are not things”
how true How good it would be if we could replace things with peace and love more often.
We take this opportunity to wish you all a Peaceful New Year

All events will be displayed on the board for everyone to see. However feel free to drop in at any of our services.

Church Anniversary – 99 years in the building

Sunday, December 9th, 2012

Led by Darryl Lomas, Deacon at Tapton.
Readings: Matt 13 v53-58 & Luke 10 v25-37.
Is anyone interested in the 99th anniversary? In the case of Tapton the 99th year is only likely to last 22 days before we start celebrating our centenary in 2013. All focus is always on 100, in cricket batsmen enter the nervous nineties, infact 99 could be classed as the leper amongst numbers.
This resonates with the unloved and unwanted but compounded at this ‘festive’ time of year.
We have images of happy families, presents, baubles on the Christmas tree and logs burning on the fire.
Unfortunately this is not the case for many who are friendless, homeless or unemployed – societies 99s.
What do we do for the unloved? How do we reach out as reflected in the passage about the Good Samaritan?
Darryl reflected on two notices he had seen this week – ‘the greatest happiness in life is to love and be loved’. Love can be found at Tapton so use it!
Also remember ‘the most important things in life are not things’.

The service concluded with organist John playing Overture to the Messiah by GF Handel.
